Song Stuck in My Brain

This song is stuck in my head:

I heard it on www.watchtheguild.com 's forum... because there's randomly a radio-type thing there. I think anyone can upload a song to the radio. Isn't that nifty? I should try but I think all of my files are all legal... and stuff. Wha? ("Go to bed" shouts the peanut gallery).

Lyrics-

Tell me where you've been to, point me to the door
I've seen you around but I really can't be sure
And all the hatchet men are busy climbing up the wall
Banging on the window tearing down the hall

And the last chance girl in a first dance swirl
Leans her head down on the wooden floor
Won't be dancing anymore

And where do they go when the thrills have gone?
And the last song plays down at babylon
Five hundred kids shout what's the deal?
It's a very confusing way to feel

The radio is silent except for wicked bands
Sounding like the last one always in demand
And now the city is off limits to everyone in blue
Nothings getting in there no one's getting through

And it's no surprise when the last light dies
And the girl upon the wooden floor
Won't be dancing anymore

And where do they go when the thrills have gone?
And the last song plays down at babylon
Five hundred kids shout what's the deal?
It's a very confusing way to feel

I'm not sure I get the meaning, come to think of it. I edited the lyrics for grammar a bit (er, I mean I added commas and fixed misspells). But not much. Ignore the ickiness.

Saw Duplicity today. I'm not sure how I feel about it yet- it wasn't as funny as I expected but it certainly wasn't not funny. Whoa, double neg. I can feel the grammar police coming to bring me in to the station in a paddy wagon. Ew. Anyway, Clive Owen (Owens?) was a lot more attractive than usual. Perhaps it was his awesome suits. Speaking of suits, Michael's yellow suit totally made an appearance in season two, part two, btw. I think I forgot to mention it, despite the excitingness of its resurface. Burn Notice season three starts this Thursday! Who else is peeing their pants about it? (Just me? How embarrassing....)

Gave in to temptation and am now a Twitter member. But I just follow three people (Nathan Fillion, Felicia Day, and Jeffrey Donovan... oh crap, I'm following Eliza Dushku as well. Durn, I'm a nerd). And I don't get cell phone updates or update my own stat. So, basically, I'm still cool (is what I'm trying to say.) You believe me, right?

OH (and now I re-nerd-ify myself) I got Legendary standing in Puzzle Pirates for Shipwrightery. Here is the link to the Puzzle Standings article that explains how that makes me awesome and amazing (but only in a virtual, non-real way v.v). I'm one level away from Ultimate, which is the highest that is attainable. Alas, if only this were a pirating puzzle instead of a crafting one. What sort of pirate am I, anyway, to be good at a shop job but terrible at rumbling (fighting with my fisticuffs)? Also, I re-outfitted myself to be all Link-like in Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Don't I look like an elf?

And, a poem, that attempts to read like I write my blog O.o whoa...

Each and every time you deem to stumble
And haphazardly sweep into my sideways-leaning so-called life
With those tangled, blushing strings of permed-in curls entangling
And springing into crazy animation while snaking nimble-like
A leaping, split-tongued beast-ruler of gaze and gaze and gaze and gaze
Making the breast-bound pumping apparatus attempt auto-liberation
So that it’s now tripping down and lower, crashing into that bouncy wiry net
Inexplicably and most intricately twined to those menstrual-looking locks
And thusly, very strangely, every stuttered, muttered, breathy syllable
Fashions itself into a metaphor (a horrid attempt) for you or us or me all by myself
When I’m ditched and road-splattered and illegal hitchhiking on the side of I-5
Contemplating road kill-icide, overwhelmed, border-line spontaneous combusting
I see a self-aware nimble nimbus cloud making sweet (but silly) wishes
To one day, someday, maybe today, but never ever yesterday
Metamorphose all Kafka-novel-esque into a happy-as-can-be forecast
Of sunny summer smiling child-runs-around laughing days
When we can ride the merry-go-round and the Ferris Wheel and
Zombie-watch the amateurs who eat far too much (blue?) cotton candy
And dream in a wildly whimsical youngster fashion of vampirical forever
That could only last a little and will wilting/wither rose-like
One week, seven days, some number of hours and seconds and minutes
Each and every single time you willy-nilly stumble back into my life
Every tragic time.

Have Splurged

But only in Puzzle Pirates, so it's cool...? I'll need to actually work in a crew for a while at some point, to get ze big bucks. I got a trophy case because I'm sick of carrying my trinket around (a zombie heart... wha?). This will really add some class to my home in the game, or something. Probably should have bought a backup/better sword instead... all I have to sword fight with is a stick. I'm sure you can imagine.

Almost done rereading Thief of Always. Not sure I'm impressed. But I was read it in sixth grade so I thought it would be all nostalgic except I hated sixth grade so maybe it was a bad idea. Having trouble getting sucked into any book. What is the world coming to anyway?

Too tired to be awake! Night!

--- thoughts??!?!?

[Cue Interesting Title]

No more motivation left for schoolwork and still have one.5 book plus two 12-page papers to go. What is the world coming to? Cannot wait for dead day Spring '09. Must actualize plans of Zelda OoT 24-hr winning blur. Must. There is need for more nerd-dom. More flotillas. Yay, spelling!

On that random note...

Should also make plans to actually finish Bertie book, maybe do one-week Nanowrimo equivalent-thing. Then, I should re-try writing a pilot though scratch sci fi idea because I simply have not enough exp. in the writing esp. in a form I'm unfamiliar with. Maybe try writing a play? Seems like there just aren't any good ones by latino authors- fill market demand? I feel like I have all this creativity and it's just being turned into daydreams that fuel staying awake in class tho not so much aware anymore. Hrm.

Puzzle Pirating again, a bit. I want to up my skill levels for all the piracy puzzles. Must find other person who plays so I can have team for Spades and Poker (even tho those are carousing puzzles, not piracy)... I have zero experience on those, which makes me look like a n00b (feeling tech like heck!). Maybe should consider another game that someone else already plays? But it must be free...

Also, should get to the random applying. Perhaps I should stay home tomorrow night and get crap done. Need moneys for the schoolings. How to get published? Every little bit helps! (I want my name in the front window of Barnes and Noble...) Ooooh, Americorp! In the area! Huzzah! Community organizing? I shall be the president in 2040 (?).

Maybe the randomness of this writing suggests the need for sleep. Do not work out at midnight- it will give you energy rush madness such as to keep you up all the night. Pooh on the zoo. Wha?

Finished The Guild. Hilarious. Must find similar type online shows because of gloriousness of medium and happiness of freedom. Yay.

Goodnight good night sweet sleep and kisses.

I Need to Start Daily Blogging Again

So that when I create my genius autobiography, I'll need only look back, cut, and paste. Huzzah.

So I'm going to leave this auto-saving little baby open on the side whilst I screw around online, etc. (ah, abuse of grammar is a fun pastime). Yohoho! Puzzle Pirating is early on the agenda because I am exhausted from running around being nearly late all day. The first bus this morning broke down, which simply has never happened to me before (well, except once... but they fixed it or something because it didn't take long for us to be back on the road) and I had to skedoodle off to another bus when it stopped to save us castaways, which took me to the UW instead of downtown Seattle (I knew it getting on, but, le sigh, I didn't realize how crappy the bus schedule is in that area that time of day... which is just weird, given the number of bus commuters at colleges). Then I took the 49 to Seattle Central CC but the bridge was up or something so we went crazy slow and then there was traffic up the wazoo because some sort of celebration was going on on the SCCC campus. I got a free energy drink out of it. Which I had to carry in my backpack all day. But at least it didn't explode- yay. What am I going to do with it? 44g of carbs, 43g sugar in 12 fl oz. How do they cram so much badness in so little liquid? Liquidy sugar....

So, anyway, I had to print things when I got to school before classes (i.e. homework) but I didn't have time to get food-ness (which was the anti-starvation plan) or get my new bus pass (which'll cost me $2.50 cash on Monday ew...). I did manage to get to class on time(ish) though, so that was yay-ey. Except our teacher had us go on tangents talking about potato sacks and coins, which seemed okay because it made class go by faster except that then she said we were behind (but she led us to be that way...) and says we might have to add a class day (which my PHIL teacher did yesterday- can they do that?!?!??!). Bummer.

And after class I had to run run run to the Central Cinema on 21st and Union (and call mommy to get directions b/c I had not enough time to look it up), picking up a sandwich on the way, and all this because my class did not wait for me at the shiney fountain! Oy, restart. Sentence failure. So, we were meant to meet as a class at the shiney pool in front of the chapel at 1:30 but my class didn't get out 'til 1:35 (but neither did the prof!) so I grabbed a sandwich on the way but when I got there, there was no class (people, not quality). So, I didn't know where to go so called mommy to get directions and ran to the theatre and got there just in time. Yay.

I saw some of the Beyond Good Intentions videos with a bunch of Human Rights people (Global Washington was sponsoring) and there was commentary after each vid (there like ten minutes each) by the director and feedback from the audience. Central Cinema's crazy- every seat has a desk and they serve you food and/or/nor drink. Anyway, a lot of people were kinda rude to the lady and it kinda turned into a pissing contest. Negative yay.

Then luck struck- huzzah! I got a ride with a gal in class to the ID and caught the 522 (just in time- favorite). Ate my sandwich on the bus then did crosswords (got farther than usual for a Thursday). Came home and watched The Guild some. It is a funny web-short series about MMORPGs and guilds. Felicia Day is a goddess.

And now will laze about playing Puzzle Pirates as is destined. Ta-ta.

A poem...

To the man who surely would have killed me if he had just been real

Well, you’ve visited me almost five times now
and every time you’ve failed to impale me with your enormous knife

You have that jagged blade that catches the moonlight even when there is no moon
and dark clothing that I suppose is a mix between an undertaker and a ninja
though the silly bandana over your mouth and nose is more Western rogue-ish
and how the devil do I see you smile when your lips are covered, anyway?

We’ve lost the passion of our early days, you and I, and fallen into a routine
you lunge, I scream and propel myself away, and then you simply disappear
the cat looks at me irritably and you aren’t there to take the blame
which really makes you like every other man I’ve known

After all this time, I still haven’t seen your face but I imagine you must be handsome
because, after all, why shouldn’t you be?
I can’t remember your eyes; maybe you wear sunglasses, which is just ridiculous
and might account for why your aim is always so far off

Oh, my mysterious visitor with your phallus-like choice of weapon
I am beginning to wonder if you aren’t the creation of a mind that hates the romantic
but only when it is sensible enough to be awake
and, if you please, if you couldn’t one day try to become some sort of erotic fantasy
I think that that would be just fine

Amanda Martin 2009 (not that you'd steal it, but if you wanted to, I'd take you to court and then take your shirt, rawr)

There's a Spider in My Car

I forgot when I got out to check and make sure it isn't some poisonous kind. So, it's probably full of toxins and is just waiting for tomorrow morning to attack and kill me. Making plans. Staking out the best position for an ambush. Hrm.

I first saw the little devil on my drive back from the park and ride. He was slithering up my windshield, stalking me like a lion. He went slow, then fast, then stopped, then fast, then stopped, then slow slow slow until he was practically two inches from where he began his spidery voyage. It was terrifying.

Yes, you remember correctly. I am not afraid of spiders. Except when they jump on me or distract me from driving. Actually, I wasn't terribly terrified at the time, to be perfectly honest (I am manly that way), but I looked up poisonous spiders that live in this area when I got home, and I think it looked like this:

Which is the brown recluse... and the spider was the right size. OMG, I am going to die tomorrow. Please recall that I want all my possessions donated to the Sci Fi Museum and please burry me in the middle of the desert in the nude.

Lies lies lies. Don't really do that...

But I will worry when I enter my car tomorrow. Yeek.

*Post 300!*

Maybe I'm un-cooling myself by celebrating these nesses. But it's such a nice, even number. Right? (And yes, please enjoy the way I managed to turn one sentence into three).

So, I haven't told you yet (you?) but I did get to see Carrie Fisher-- hurrah for Friday tickets. She was quite hilarious, though her voice was marred by smoking (not just tobacco....). Here is a brief clip illegally put up on YouTube (if you are viewing this on a day far from when it was posted, then I am sorry if the link has been taken down):

I'm sorry for the crap quality. Hrm. Not the funniest clip, but the show was quite hilarious in general. You will just have to take my word for it, or see her perform at another venue (I believe she's heading to Broadway).

In other news, let's us all word to get The Mentalist, Castle, and Doll House renewed for second seasons. I'm pretty positive The Mentalist is going to a second season, since it's consistently been in the top ten, and peaked at the number one slot (congrats!). But Castle is kind of on the line between making it and not (panic!) yet it has been doing better lately- here's hoping! Doll House Doll House Doll House... I can't figure out how well it's doing, but it has no where near the viewership of the other two shows- however, it does have the unattractive 9PM Friday night slot (this slot is randomly desirable for cable but not for network- why??? BTW, that is the same as Monk's time slot on cable, which is the basis of my thinking this..... I need to revamp my words).

The Dollhouse (I made it two words, but it's not... so, we'll just slip it in correctly now) finale was pretty durned great. There have been so many twists- it's amazing! I'm super excited about the release on DVD. The second half was so well written and well-acted (see, I learn, but I don't edit). ^____^ I want to see the Felicia Day episode on the DVD (it was cut....).

My phil presentation went pretty well- people laughed (um, I was making jokes.... it worked?). Our professor called our presentation "outstanding" so I think that's good? Right? Well, we'll see. I only had to do the one- so I must focus on the paper now! Hurrah, no class on the 20th!

But I have another presentation tomorrow... I think it'll be okay? I need to put the finish touches on it tomorrow morning. I want to go to bed now. Sleepy sleepy.

But I'm too excited about the new season of Burn Notice! Eeeeeek! ....

Oh, and I finished the last Percy Jackson book- the Last Olympian. I liked it a lot- great action all the way through, but the end didn't feel endy enough, y'know? But it does make me want to work on my Children's Fantasy (caps?) novel. I'm so close to the end! And yet! So far! Wah!

From The Alchemist

Prologue

The Alchemist picked up a book that someone in the Caravan had brought.
Leafing through the pages, he found a story about Narcissus.

The Alchemist knew the legend of Narcissus, a youth who knelt daily
beside a lake to contemplate his own beauty. He was so fascinated by
himself that, one morning, he fell into the lake and drowned.
At the spot where he fell, a flower was born, which was called
the Narcissus.

But it was not how the author of the book ended the story.

He said that when Narcissus died, the goddess of the forest appeared
and found the lake, which had been fresh water, transformed into a
lake of salty tears.

"Why do you weep?" the Goddess asked.

"I weep for Narcissus." The Lake replied

"Ah, it is no surprise you weep for Narcissus." they said "for though
we always pursued him in the forest, you alone could contemplate his
beauty close at hand."

"But... was Narcissus beautiful?" the lake asked.

"Who better than you to know that?" the goddess said in wonder.
"After all, it was by your banks that he knelt each day to
contemplate himself!"

The lake was silent for some time. Finally it said:
"I wept for Narcissus, but I never notice that Narcissus was beautiful.
I weep because, each time he knelt beside my banks, I could see, in
the depths of his eyes, my own beauty reflected."

"What a lovely story." the Alchemist thought.

Sick v.v

I hope I throw up all over the stupid speakers.... no, not really.... maybe just my teacher, who made such harsh consequences for missing the events today that I have to go even though nothing wants to stay down and everything hurts- le gr.

I'm bringing my laptop, and I'm typing through the damn lectures, and to hell with the consequences- (I feel so empowered? Except not really).

(Probably will not actually have computer on at all during lectures, but I might work on my Phil paper.)

(Or I could work on my story, hrm)

(And I have to go to school early- wha!?)

*Stressed Out, Yow!.... Yeow! How the devil do you spell it....*

Anyway, must go see Sandra Cisneros tomorrow night instead of Carrie Fisher (come on, who has a gold bikini fantasy about Sandra Cisneros? Blub blub...). Also seeing Helena Maria Viramontes, which means I can add both Chicanas to my list of "famous people I've been in the same room with" list.... but I'm not sure if I really can, because if you haven't heard of them, are they really famous? Have YOU heard of them? I've read them, but only in this class. Carrie Fisher is definitely a celeb. Gold bikini or no gold bikini....

Bummed.

Anyway, what else? Neck pain is awful because I'm stressed and working more than usual (except not so much today... I have a lot of Friday wide open, it is crazy... wait, do I have a play? Oh, no, I left it open so that I COULD work on school work- brilliant me... end rant). Academic conference and all. 20 minute presentation.... I hope no one comes >.< oh, except you mom! That would be okay, I think. I don't want any of my profs to come see me make a fool of myself. Plus, I reread the creative writing piece, and it's depressing. But L said it was good back when I wrote it, so I must be confident. 自信にいります! I need confidence... OR an earthquake... oh, except it's in kanji, so definitely confidence and not earthquake.

I want to Twitter now (or is it Tweet if you're just following?) because Jeffrey Donovan is on Twitter and apparently, just looking at him makes me happy. And his posts are not very eloquent, which makes them seem more authentic. Plus he uses smiley faces, which are just cheery. ^.^ <---ex.

I want to write a collection of short stories about less-famous Greek gods/heroes/characters. Okay, so maybe I am inspired by the final Percy Jackson and the Olympians book, but I could really see writing about:
Selene and Endymion (okay, that one might go back to Sailor Moon... ah, I'm so cool I forget)
Calypso (a sea nymph stuck on an island :( )
.... ok, so I got two...

That's not so many.... In other news (?) there is now a CAST LIST on IMDB for Percy Jackson and the Olympians the movie!!! AND it includes Uma Thurman, Catherine Keener, the always-sexy Pierce Brosnan, and Sean Bean! Wee! And Disney owns the rights, and they've got deep pockets for awesome effects (and I shall expel Prince Caspian from my mind).

I really felt like I had a lot more to say. I think I'm going to post my philosophy notes up here for you soon (my paper/presentation/going to get me an F- notes) so you can see why I am not happy with the whole philosophy-learning thing (though my teacher has a happy aura that makes him great to be around. I smile back and nod and think about the Percy Jackson movie and wish that Jeffrey Donovan was in it, effectively mixing two of the greatest mind-subjects).

OH! I did have more to talk about:

I think this video is sending negative vibes out there, but I'm posting it, and be warned of expletives:

I think that by cussing out those who spread hate, these people are spreading more hate, which is weird because the message is meant to be "anti-hate" right? Also, Lily Allen's song has the same weird hypocritical thing going on, though it is mighty catchy. I hate hate too, but let's love the hater, hate the hate! Right? Hating people spreads negativity! So if you're anti-hate toward people, don't make angry vids... it just spreads the anger further v.v

This vid on the other hand:

Isn't really a vid, but this song is haunting me. I was playing it on the piano, and I'd never heard it before- it "revealed itself to me" (v. Phil-y.... not the Penn one...) and this version is the prettiest on YouTube. It makes me cry, it is so beautiful. Sigh!

<3 to you all (not hate, silly collab-ers).... even the prof who's making me miss gold bikini ma'am. (but less than to everyone else, and a little extra for Carrie Fisher, who must perform without my positive vibes in the audience.)

Edit: Keeping track of the interesting minor-god myths:
Selene and Endymion
Calypso
Thetis (a minor sea goddess and the mother of Achilles)
Hestia (goddess of the hearth)
Antaeus (titan? unbeatable only if his feet stayed on the ground)

So, I'm in?

I guess I'm in at the Seattle U Undergraduate Research Association thing this Friday, because I'm on the schedule (hmm) but nobody ever e-mailed me. What sort of lunacy is this and what have I gotten myself into? So, I need to have a presentation of some sort for Friday, but I don't know how long it ought to be, if I'll have access to a computer, who will actually be there (if anybody?), etc. etc. etc. Holy crap, I thought I was just applying to be considered, but I think they accept anything that's sent in... huh.... So, I'm in a bit of a pinch and will need to scramble to have a semi-decent Powerpoint by Friday that may or may not be viewable... so I guess I need a fancy-pants speech too. Or do you think I can just read the section of the paper?

Also, they asked for my advisors on the presentation, and I basically molded two class papers together with a lot of individual research to make this paper that will be presented on.... so I just listed those two teachers. Do you think they'll be pissed? Unless I do a good job, in which case... happy?

Oh dear.

Anyway, I'll try to post what I come up with when I get it done. It is a high pain week, and midterms are in full bloom. I just want to chop the whole darn tree down! (And use it for firewood except not so much, given that we have an electric one, hrm.)

The Schedule:

Photo Competition

I'm entering the Seattle U Study Abroad Photography Competition with some of the photos I took while in Japan. So, I can submit up to five photos, and they are looking "for photographs that go beyond the “postcard” and express your personal vision and understanding of life in your host country."

The winning photos were are the lowest three pictured on the above site. Hrm, what do YOU think?

I am having some difficulty in narrowing it down to five, though I have gotten it narrowed to ELEVEN (yay!) from five thousand million and forty-five hundred. I know for a fact that these three will be submitted, because I like them the best, etc.:

"Strangers in the Window" Ikebukuro, Japan

"Warrior Noodles" Kawaguchi-ko, Japan

"Old Friends" Tokyo, Japan

So, here are the others. Please tell me which ones you like, if they ought to be cropped, and if you think they should have a color effect (black and white, sepia, etc.). Also, if you have better titles, please throw them my way!

"Town Shrine" Warabi, Japan

"Impromptu Taiko" Ikebukuro, Japan

"The Calligraphy Shop" Tokyo, Japan

"Morning Commute" Tokyo, Japan

"Street Performer, Odaiba" (Odaiba subdistrict of) Tokyo, Japan

"The Bus Station at Night" Tokyo, Japan

"Under Construction" Kawagoe, Japan

"Voyeurism" Yokohama, Japan

Thanks!!! <3 Just comment on this post to let me know or message me on Facebook.
